AKOMA BOOKS
ABOUT US
Akoma is represented by a heart and means patience, tolerance, and goodwill. It is one of many adinkra symbols that comes from the Akan tribe in Ghana. These symbols are concepts and aphorisms that are used daily in clothing, art, and furniture.
Akoma Books was started in 2015, out of love and necessity. It's necessary for everyone, especially black and brown brothers and sisters to learn about themselves, their history, present and future. We were the first independently black-owned bookstore in Owensboro, Kentucky and temporarily only operate online and based out of Evansville, Indiana. Our mission is to help educate, empower, and promote cultural pride through its products and services.
